Define
yourself.
Let’s
talk about a mango tree. A mango tree is
a mango tree, not only when it has become a bearer of mangoes but even so when
the only claim it has for mangoes is in its potential to be productive in its
purpose – mango production. It may just have sprouted but it is still a mango
tree. The potential in this tree is where it derives its name. In actual sense,
even if a mango tree was to never bear any fruits, it would still be referred
to as a mango tree only that there would be a tag to its name – The mango tree
that bears no fruit. Now, that’s a dangerous tag to a name. That tag will lead
to the tree being used for a purpose for which it was not ordained for – It
will be cut down and used as firewood.
This
example helps me to realize that I am not just nothing simply because I am this
circumstance. God has wired me with a fiber of greatness within me. I am
already whom I want to be and thus I am living day by day, making strides towards
my purpose, fulfilling it bit by bit until it is fully revealed. Today, I may
be like that seed that has just sprouted, but like the Mustard seed, which is
small, Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants,
with such big branches that the birds of the air can perch in its shade.1
When
a farmer plants a mango tree, he does not call it a small nothing. No. He calls
it a mango tree. On the contrast, most people, be it our parents, guardians,
relatives and other people of influence in our lives are rarely able to speak
and to call us by that seed of greatness that is within every one of us. At
times, we are called insulting names, names that have no significance in
invoking us to be who we have been ordained to be. This is not a blame game.
They most likely are not able to perceive the potential that is within us. But
not to worry! Here comes in our heavenly Daddy, He calls us his own. He calls
us by our names. So if God was to call you today, what would he name would he
call you? In Isaiah 49:16, he says,
Here is more on what He would call you.
- More than a conquer.
- The apple of my eye.
- My Son, My daughter, the heir.
- Strong, victor, great.
- A mighty man of valor
- The work of mine hands.
- My portion.
- My beloved.
- My friend.
- A royal priesthood
- A chosen generation.
- A people belonging to God.
The
truth is that God has a lot of hope in us to be who he has called us to be and
he is not ashamed of saying it. He knows He is sure we are made for it. He has
created us for it!
