My Mom:
I owe you a smile every time
I am indebted to keep you smiling
I added to you weight, strain and
pain
You counted me as a gain
I took from your time, your life
You gave me love, for a life time
Your everything for me
You have such a big heart mom!
My mess was a message to you
You fed me and cleared the message
after me.
You labored, not to get me out,
But to get me to your hands
To you I became first, you last, that I could last
You fed that I could have something
to feed
Awake and watching when I slept and
when I woke
When did you ever sleep mom?
You broke down big people’s talk
Tata, tati, tate, te
I liked it when I mimicked you
When we made funny faces
You would work as I slept in the
comfort of you back
Where did you get that strength
mom?
You trained me in the art of life
Held me as I made my small major steps
Then I’d try
I would fall
I would break into a cry
You’d take me
Rest me on your shoulders
Sooth me with your smooth voice
The calming touch of your hands
The assurance that I was gonna be
okay
I would hold to the hem of your garment,
Belonging to your heart and your life.
You are my mom
I am your son
And it’s gonna be so forever
My mom. Your son.
********
My son, keep your father's commands and do not forsake your mother's teaching.
